BIO

Melissa Sweazy is an award-winning screenwriter, narrative and documentary filmmaker, music video director, and photographer based in Memphis, TN.  Her documentary feature GOOD GRIEF, co-directed with Laura Jean Hocking, won both the audience award and Best Hometown Feature at the 2017 Indie Memphis Film Festival. She is currently in production on PERFORMING THE PEACE, a feature documentary on a groundbreaking theater company and their work healing relationships between police officers and former convicted felons.  Her feature screenplay NESSUN DORMA was workshopped at the Venice Biennale and is currently in development for a fall 2019 production. She is the recipient of the Indie Memphis Grizzlies Grant for her animated short “Stephanie Loves the Grizzlies.” Her commercial work for corporate clients have won her Emmy nominations and multiple Addy award wins. She is the creator and co-host of YOU CAN SEE ME IN THE DARK, a weekly ghost story podcast. Her essays and photography have been published in Babble, Elle Decor, LA Weekly, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, and she delivered a TEDx: Memphis talk entitled “If You Love Them Let Them Go: A Hypocrite’s Guide to Free Range Parenting.”
